- Platforms and operating systems : Java EE 5 is workable for unix, windows hardware and operating systems. However .NET supports C#, C++, VB but it's only for Windows servers
- Both support third party databases and tools, but the monitoring tools is more expensive for unix platform
Choice between Java EE 5 and Microsoft .NET
- depends on your current environment, staff, supply chain partners, management relationships, …
- It is not only a technical choice
- the cost are similar in turn of TCO
- Java 5 EE + Oracle is considered ‘high end’ in most industries
- .NET is considered cheaper, lower performance, lower reliability
